Still life photography is a great way to hone your photography skills and develop some new techniques. Since there's no movement involved, you don't have to rush your shot. Research the best location for lighting, which is one of the key elements in getting a good still life image, along with good balance and framing.
We're surrounded by a wealth of good (and some not so good) still life photographs. The supermarket shelves are lined with magazines that are full of still-lifes. That monthly ...

You've entered the age of technology full speed ahead and are drowning in the newest technological gadgets. Every time you turn around you bump into someone with a blackberry or a cell phone. Stop in at the coffee shop and somebody is on a laptop computer. Drive down the road and the other drivers could be on any of these things. Where will it all stop? It probably won't. Even in the midst of the technology boom the outdoors will never grow old. Hiking to the old fishing hole is still a pastime ...

Whether a first time hunter or an experienced one, there are many basic rules that a hunter should know and keep in mind whenever he goes hunting. For many, turkey hunting is a fun sport and a very exciting activity to undertake. Many states allow turkey hunting and even have a season in spring and fall. Most turkeys however are hunted in the spring season, when hunters are also out for other game. During spring, due to mating season, only male and young male turkeys are allowed to be ...

After a long day of seeing patients at the community health clinic, Dr. Nick Yphantides (who's Greek name is pronounced Eee-fahn-tee-dees) liked to reward himself by driving through his favorite fast-food joint, In-N-Out Burger, and ordering a '4 by 4,' large fries, and a Coke. Pontoons are known for their fun and maneuverability, as they allow you to travel almost everywhere, but regardless of your coordinates, it's hard to keep in the shade on the open water. When you're on the pontoon, unless you have some form of protection, you'll be pretty much totally open to things like rain, spray, and ultraviolet rays. This could make it hard to get the most enjoyment out of your pontoon boat, regardless of whether you're fishing, seeing the sights, or having a good time ...

I love to offer a different view, or "take", on things and this pastel painting certainly does that. One in a new series of paintings that explores reflections on shiny surfaces, this also qualifies as an equine work, as well. I am very happy with the feel of wind in the horse's mane and the warmth of the sun hitting the worn leather on the tack . A sunny pastoral landscape is captured in the silver reflection.

Spring is on the way and with it comes new beginnings. New painting ideas, new shows and competitions, galleries reopening after being closed for the winter season and many, many new painting opportunities. Anticipation, joy and feelings of renewal fill us all as we enter this new season of hope.
The painting shown here captures the spirit of Spring and is one of a series on the changing seasons and birds that I am currently working on. Each will be small enough to hang in this grouping of

The word "reflecting" can mean many different things and as I write this it does to me. I am currently reflecting on the direction of my art, how blessed I have been to be able to pursue my passion in the creation of art, and even my recent fascination with reflections. I am captivated by them and am seeking them out - looking for the next one that I may be able to capture creatively in pastel or acrylic.I am "reflecting" on the fact that this is quite a departure from the type of art I
